Hair cut?

This is an actual conversation that occurred between a woman and her mother in the waiting room of a community music school . They are both older, the mother is around 50 years old, while the mother looks to be a young 75. They sing together in the Community Chorus. After their weekly rehearsal, they
always wait in the lobby for some driver (who's always late) to pick them up. This is a conversation they had this afternoon while waiting.

Woman: I think I developed a cowlick.
Mother: What do you mean?
Woman: Well, I've had hair my whole life, but I've never had a cowlick... ever.
Mother: Do you think it's the way you got your hair cut?
Woman: Well...
Mother: I've noticed that you itch your head a lot, like some kind of cartoon chimp. Would itching your head create cowlicks?
Woman: No, I don't think so. I've just noticed, I mean, I know I've ALWAYS had hair... but no cowlicks.
Mother: Maybe it's the itching.
Woman: What's a cartoon chimp have anything to do with my cowlick?
Mother: Do you think it's the way you got your hair cut?
